The United Nations. It, like the League of Nations before it, was established in the hopes that the world's powers would take their disputes to it for adjudication. No more war.

Needless to say, it failed as miserably as the League of Nations.

It still exists today as the United Nations. It is in no way the same as what the founder nations proposed.

The reason for its very existence was to avoid military conflicts like WWll and to improve the quality of life for all nations

The UN has, if nothing else, shown how nations see others and how they can take advantage of their standing in the organization

It was called "La Societe Des Nations" and was based in Switzerland. It was later changed to "The United Nations" and moved to New York. It was created by the treaty of Versailles in 1919 to promote Peace among Nations. It became fully operational after WWII. The principal promoter was Pres.Woodrow Wilson of the USA.

The United Nations - The prupose was to help in cooperation of international law, international security, economic development, social progress and human rights issues. This has failed on most levels, but it still keeps on ticking for some reason.
