Some feminists feel the need to bash others who are different/ have made different choices than they have. Isn't feminism about CHOICE? If so is it safe to say those that bash others based on their choices do not 'deserve' the title ''feminist''?

A few examples of feminists bashing others for their choices:
- All bodybuilders are narcissists, are idiots and cannot chew gum as well as walk at the same time. {Note: she'd probably be flexing in the mirror too is she took the time to build the body of one.}
- Insults others by calling them janitors (this is disrespecting the tough jobs janitors have).
- Insults others by saying they have no education (imagine all the poor kids who can't, this is a very immoral statement from a feminist).
- Calling anti/ non-feminists cranks and trolls (shouldn't you respect EVERYONE's choices?).

There are many many more but I think I'll stop here.

Here's some of what she said (can't find link, it's too old. ''You work out and watch television: an intellectual you are NOT.''

She also called a good friend of mine a janitor.

I'm not talking about her exclusively. If you wish I could find other posts from other users? And don't shove words down my throat because I never said all feminists were like her, I asked if it was safe to say persons that did this weren't really feminists by the definition of the term.

2007-06-19 12:15:15 · update #2

You don't like it when we call feminists misandrists so why are you calling anti/ non-feminists misogynists? Seems kinda hypocritical.

Sigh...Ju, I am tired of you and Carm's false allegations against me. I saw this question decided not to answer it since it was obviously someone trolling, read the first answer, thumbed her up and moved on. You both sounds like the kind of girls who'd make false rape accusations.

2007-06-19 12:56:37 · update #4

Ju look at the last poster who answered. She said she liked them and she's a woman. Also the troll with sunglasses made an offensive question about women. I answered ''I ♥ women. It's not true.'' Ask your friend Carm if you want. She was right underneath me. I'd post the link but it seems question was deleted.

2007-06-19 13:04:34 · update #5

Ju it's kinda funny that you wrongfully accuse me of being that guy then posting a definition of trolling. I think you're TEH troll.

I completely agree with the article I even saw the video about it on YouTube and one of the figurines was Anakin Skywalker. However, this has nothing to do with narcissism. Are all models also narcissistic? And no I don't do steroids. While it's true I was tempted to, I don't want the many side effects of them and I decided that it is not what I wanted. Regardless, I will give you a thumbs up for your effort at a decent post (even though it was a poor answer to the question).

2007-06-19 14:32:29 · update #7

I'm not. In this case the posters above me who are neutral must ALSO be lying right? Your call.

2007-06-19 14:35:31 · update #8

I've never been a janitor in my life so... also I took the course 3 years ago. I gave far more details than any of the posters who gave, in short, the same answer I did. Why do you lie about your psychology degree? I was and still am, falsely accused of being all the trolls on this board as well as honest, innocent users which is why I said this.

And Bravo to Einstein A.K.A Ksoileau for his magnificent post. Very good comebacks at everyone of them. My compliments!

This is a subject that deals with confidence, upbringing and maturity. Feminism is a separate issue. I say this because all types of people do this to each other.

Men do it to each other. Religions, music fans, sports fans and players......it is a human conflict.

I think the insults have nothing to do with feminism, but actually have more to do with the individual. Just because a person identifies as a feminist doesn't mean they live perfect lives and do no harm.

Lots of people say those kinds of things that you point out when they are angry. Given the kinds of questions I have seen in my time here, it's not surprising that really stupid or mean questions have really stupid or mean answers. Not everyone appreciates the humor. As we are both fellow readers of encyclopedia dramatica and other bad taste humor, we should both understand that there is a fine line between hate and humor. The internet reaches hundreds of people at the same time (thousands? millions? at least a hundred. OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAND!!) . Everyone is an individual and everyone will react differently to these situations.

Context and sarcasm are harder to predict since we are only communicating through written words.

Anti-feminists are only called cranks or trolls when they act like them. Some are able to discuss their points intelligently and rationally.

Who said anything about bodybuilders? I don't remember the word ever coming up on this forum. Janitors, neither.

About no education, that IS an unfair assessment.

We respect everyone's choices when they are made after considering all possible risks and benefits. Believe it or not, there is such thing as a wrong choice.

EDIT: I am aware that she has made her share of ill-advised decisions, but that's her issue, not mine. Stop acting as if we're all exactly like her.

Actually people in general, not just feminists, are supposed to respect others and not bash people if they disagree with what another individual thinks or feels.

Also, you may prove your point better if you stop arguing with some of the answerers on here, ya think? You should practice what you are complaining about.

Yes, it's safe to say that SOME people who call themselves feminist will fall victim to believing in stereotypes and say insulting things. However, you seem to be obsessing over a few isolated incidents. On the first question, everyone else gave you a decent and respectful answer. Only one person said something rude. So, is it really a big deal?Yes, they'll always be jerks in the world., and every group is going to have it's share. Get used to it.

I appreciate that you said some (not all or necessarily most) feminists are like that.

You're right, feminists should respect other's beliefs and their personal choices. I hate it when some feminists look down on women who choose to be stay-at-home-mothers, for instance, and think that having no/few kids and being professionally successful is what women should do.

But feminists shouldn't have to respect non-feminist (ie. women should not be treated equally) views [eg. some basic human rights and societal values should be promoted, and the opposite condemned - we don't 'respect' racism or prejudice].
BUT all feminists should respect other views that are not prejudiced (all feminists should respect that what they personally consider to be 'equal' and fair is not necessarily correct or good).

EDIT: you say that some feminists are like that (disrespectful, bashing others views) - thats very true - but there are always people like that anywhere - for instance, some Christians, some atheists...

Respect everyone's choices? Would you respect someone who wants to keep voting rights away from you? How about someone who wants to pay you less for being a man? That's their choice, and you said respect EVERYONE's choices.

There is a huge difference between choices/freedom and total freedom which are anarchy and chaos. If we are all "free" to hate each other, it accomplishes nothing.

allegra:
OK, here we go:
"1. This forum has nothing to do with bodybuilders."
Wrong. Whatever this forum is, YOU do not define it.
"2. Insulting someone by calling him/her a janitor is no worse than the insulting garbage that issues from your mouth periodically."
Two wrongs do not make a right. Most people learned this in grade school; I won't speculate on why you apparently didn't.
"3. If you're concerned about some parents not being able to afford to send their kids to school, then you should be far more interested in feminism than you are."
You have no right to dictate what another person should or shouldn't be interested in. Do you have a problem with boundaries? A counselor might be of help here.
"4. No, cranks and trolls DO NOT respect others and therefore deserve no respect whatsoever."
Again, two wrongs do not make a right, and adults act, they don't react.
"5. Where's your outrage and indignation, Tanks/Spanks/Omnibus/Astaroth, over a recent question from a male troller regarding a sexist T-shirt? We know how hot and bothered you've been in the past over the infamous "Boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them." shirt: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... . Please note your friend Robinson's answer. Don't you find it curious that none of your trolling friends rushed to the women's defense, or even responded to the question at all? I do. You must consider it all right for clothing to be insulting so long as it's insulting to women."
And of course, the ever-present victim card is played. By the way, why should anyone rush to the defense of a woman? After all, women are capable of defending themselves. Wouldn't it be an act of rank patriarchy for a man (gasp) to defend a woman in a debate? You need to get your thoughts clear on what you think feminism is.

As always allegra, you are nothing if not entertaining...

This isn't a question merely a chance for you to rant insult others and to take part in personal communications. Feminists insult you because you are constantly badgering and insulting them.

Anyone that bashes males or females (specifically) cannot be called a feminist.

That's all it really entails. You could call her a ***** for acting that way, but one could insult janitors and bodybuilders yet still be a feminist, since it involves only the equality of men and women.

EDIT: Also, remember not to listen too much to particular feminists, especially if they throw around the word "misogyny." The ones that use it the most seem to have a poor understanding of what it entails, unfortunately.

Then again, I suppose we should all know by now which feminists to consider representative of the majority and which to consider relics of an unfortunate past who will soon be wiped from the face of the Earth.

Wait a minute- did I give it away by saying "relics?"

My error.

Also, what of my answer to that "shirt" question? If the guy's going to be buying the shirt, he may as well support the U.S.A., correct?

You can try to find a hidden pretext where there is none, but you'll just tire yourself.

EDIT II: Wow, the "feminazis" sure do yap a lot don't they?
