I was dragged to a family dinner the other day, and listened to a conversation my sister's friends were having:

They wanted to take bellydancing classes. They went to a gym where they heard they gave very good classes. But they said once they saw the instructor they decided not to take classes because the instructor was a man, and a man could not teach bellydancing.

I think this sexism because no one ever says a woman doctor can't give a man a physical because she's a woman.

That's not right!!!

I'm going to agree that this is a sexist attitude. If the person is wualified to teach a class, there is no reason they should not. Now, a personal comfort zone is another matter all together. Perhaps they do not feel comfortable belly dancing in front of a man. Perhaps a man does not feel comfortable having his prostate checked by a woman doctor. I can only say, the person may be qualified to teach the class. But as the person going to the class, you should feel comfortable with your instructor. Just as you should be comfortable going to your doctor, or dentist, or your work place.

I agree with you, it was a sexist remark. It is like saying that a woman can not be a president because most presidents are men.
