Oh yes, I know what your talking about! Makes you wanna pull your own hair out!!!!! When I get enough of her for 1 day... I simply say... I gotta go, I cant deal with this anymore! Even though I dont directly insult her for her whining, she knows what im talking about cause all of our friends give her a hard time about her emotional issues over problems that are not very bad! You can tell her to get over it, but I dont think it will work! Then she will have another reason to whine- cause you were "mean" to her! LOL!

I've tried and tried with "friends" such as this. The best way to deal with it is to either in person (preferable, of course), or talk over the phone and let them know blatently how you feel about the situation. If the matter is not resolved, cut off contact with them for a period of time. That's completely up to you, though, how long you let them hang. Usually a week or so is enough to get it through their skulls. Let others who know them know what is happening as well, so you're not the only one involved. That should set them straight.

You know _____ (insert name) you seem to be having a lot of problems at the moment, have you thought about talking to a counsellor about them? I don't know if it's exactly polite but I've said it. Made them realise what a whiny baby they were being and they did shut up after that!

Just out and say it. The only way is to be totally blunt and not hint about it. If this end up breaking up your friendship, then it wasn't meant to be... because I bet that whiny friend is always a brat towards you and gives you opinions you never asked to hear.

OMG!!! I was getting to where I thought I was alone in this.
I have a friend that is envious of what others have (regardless of the situation surrounding them), money makes her squeal (although she is strapped right now). Today in fact I told her I was waiting to see the electric bill and she is on unemployment right now and I am working so she says "but you have the money to pay it". I nearly lost it.
Thanks for letting me know I am not alone in this.
Oh, your question...lol.
I have told her that we all have troubles that we deal with.
Have 5 of your friends put their problems out in front of them and look at them. You'll gather your own problems back and be glad to have them. Abuse, sickness or worse are sometimes hidden from our view.
Sorry for so long.

Yeah, I have them...
And I actually say that to them, and then I return the favour and whine back, they soon shut up.
Then they tell me I'm too honest and blunt for my own good, but they appreciate it and stick around, for some reason.

Ok so it wasn't polite, but at least she's got something else to talk about now. god, she's SO annoying.
