For years I had the usual blue going on. I moved and swore off blue.
I bought a olive green sofa/love seat, painted my lamps burgundy and added some cream on the end tables. Sounds odd but looks amazing. I also hung burgundy drapes, I hate mini blinds.

We rent, so we're stuck with white walls and beige carpet. But our framed things are in red or black, wrought iron tables with coral tiles. We have tons of plants which add splashes of green. And the curtains are white and drapes are deep purple. The splashes of color really help to not notice the drab walls and carpet.

magnolia! its rented so i cant do much about that. but i think light neutral colours are best anyway, then you can brighten the room up with the curtains, lamps, photos, canvas prints and other accessories. its cheap to do, its easier to change, it makes the room look nice and spacious and fresh.
