Navy Pier is the best, i went their once and it was great. It's a good environment, maybe go on top of Sear's tower and watch, that'd be cool!

You definitely have to be in the Navy Pier/Grant Park/Millennium Park area. Last year there were thousands and thousands of people that were on the lake North of Navy Pier and nobody could see the fireworks from there because of the skyscrapers were in the way.

Try to find a hotel room on Michigan Ave. facing the lake across from Grant Park. The Blackstone used to be great but is under construction now, maybe try the Congress or the Hilton.Get the highest floor possible. It is a great way to have some privacy and drinks while watching the fireworks from your window. You can get a suite and invite some friends.

actually, the fireworks on the lake are on the 3rd (same as every year)...the crowds are amazing...the taste of chicago is packed with people, navy pier is jammed, the whole lakefront and grant park are full...its awesome!!!!
but, if you really want to see them on the fourth, then the best ones in the city are at the Chicago White Sox game...the game is played first (against the orioles this year) then after is the fireworks...they really put a great show on at sox park (err...i mean u.s. cellular field at comiskey park...whatever)...its nice because you already have a seat, unobstructed view, food, fans, the sox, its great too!!!

Board a boat ride just before the fireworks and view it from the boat while it sails on Lake Michigan.
Or if they are available (did this several years ago) get tickets to soldiers field and see the fireworks from the stadium.
Both are less crowded than getting a spot along the lake or Navy Pier.

the fireworks show is on the 3rd in Downtown Chicago...other places in Chicago and the suburbs hold their fireworks show on the 4th...
the best place to see it on the 3rd would be from Grant Park (on either side of Lake Shore Drive)....but get there early because the Taste of Chicago will be going on and the place will be PACKED

As most people are saying, Navy Pier is great. But if you find a nice spot at the beach, you can probably have a good view of the ones from the Naval base just north as well.

Naperville, IL has a pretty good fireworks show on the 4th at their annual Ribfest. Plus the food is hella good. The Chicago fireworks on the 3rd is basically hell on earth, too many people.

Navy Pier, of course. But see if you can get on a boat. The fireworks look AMAZING from the middle of the lake!
