fully and without bias. I see some of the most ridiculous answers posted in the politics section. It is obvious that many of the people here have jumped onto a bandwagon without really knowing what they are talking about. Why would you do this? It makes you look stupid in front of the people that are not ignorant and have done their homework on these issues.

I'm an American. If you check my other postings you will see I am extremely patriotic. Acknowledging the ignorance of my fellow citizens in not un-American it is simply the truth.

Once again, most of you are missing the point. Of course this phenomena is likely apparent in other nations, but I am an American talking about America. No other cultures are relevant to this conversation.
Saying that a person sounds stupid does not actually mean that they are. Perhaps you should read more carefully.
As to where I get my information: from as many different sources with as many different spins as possible. As well as having a solid understanding of US, and world history, global politics and the American Government.
I think the key is being able to change my mind when I receive information that does not fit into my current interpretation.
I deliberately left off examples because I do not want to turn this into a partisan biased question. I also did not want to end up discussing the example instead of the question which is...
Why would you base an opinion and broadcast it on issues you obviously know very little about?

I am not sure that this "phenonmenon" is restricted to just Americans...but people like to voice their opinions even when they dont know what in the name of Sam Hill (who is that anyway) they are talking about...

Because we listen to the news which is big business.
The news, back in the 60's was not about what swung the public, but rather about the news.
Now its all about market share, feeding the never ending appetite of violence, sex and beating down the weak while refusing to look at our own house and understand just how messed up we've become.
If Americans really understood how the world works, and how much we have our priorities so screwed up which is going to affect our children's future in ways that few of you can imagine, then we wouldn't be bringing war on others, forcing democracy, propping up repressive governments so we can spoil ourselves rotten while our government is hated almost universally throughout the world.
We spend an ungodly amount of time on issues that do not affect the majority of Americans. Most of which are moral issues and not the issues that will affect YOUR future.
In short, we've become our own worst enemy.
That is a few of the many reasons I finally decided to get out.
Peace
Jim

If I asked someone for his/her views on a federal Income tax cut.
He/she may voice a view based on his/her knowledge of economics, but those views may be greatly influenced on how that tax cut may affect him/her personally.
There is another level of consciousness that may permeate ones opinion, and that is "what does my group think of this?"
Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions. Because one decision may have ramifications and affect other decisions, the views expressed here in politics will very likely be tainted by the writer political affiliation (stated or unstated).

I resent this assumption because I am an American and I do not do this. Although this craziness runs rampant in America, it is not the only country in the world to do so. Calling someone stupid is usually a sign of weakness and ignorant arrogance, but hey! I haven't researched this enough to properly evaluate you.

They do research - sound bite news programs that are more like variety shows than news and analysis. I also think a lot of people make use of Comedy Central as their principle research source.

Forming an opinion is pretty easy, even if you've just heard a little biased media reporting on it. In fact, try /not/ forming an opinion, it's not as easy as it sounds.

could you give us an example?
== sage I asked for an example because you are making an allegation without provided evidence. You might be well read but would make a terrible lawyer. I know some do it but you really made a blanket statement and i figured you would have some examples.

From whom do you get your research information?someone who has an opinion or raw data? If you get raw data you must be a reporter or something. But I get your point.
