I was thinking about getting a hamster. Any advice??

I just need to know what cages are best, what is the best kind of hamster to own etc. etc.

I like black bear hamsters, but it really just depends on the hamster's personality. I would go to the adoption center and hold some, to get a feel for what they would be like at home. You should get a ball for them to run around in and make sure that the cage they come in has a wheel. You need water, formulated hamster food, and bedding (carefresh works the best for small animals). You'll have to clean out the cage once a week and replace the bedding

I and my children have had hamsters, rats, guinea pigs and have always found a 10 gallon aquarium the best so called cage, keeps the wood shaving in and easy to clean. a water bottle that hangs on the side an wheel for excersize and a dish for food. They will build a nest and will hide food. Getting them used to being handled takes some time spend 5 minutes a day holding them at first of course they will be hard to catch but after awhile they will get to know you. ALways had the plain old brown hamster very docile

they are cute but sooooo noisy they are COMPLETLY NOCTURNAL! I suggest getting a black bear hamster...they are sweet...never bite and cute and also GET A GIRL but remember u need to clean its cage feed it and remember it makes TONS AND TONS of noise at night!

for the cage,never get too many complicated tubesfirst of all it is hard to get it out second, they may fall of and the hapster. the best kind of Hampster to get is a big one and the one that looks lazy in the store(they dont bite you much) and DONT feed them ANY human food, they will die a painful slow death............
