I just came home from the doctors.. I am 35 weeks 4 days pregnant.. I went into pre-term labor at 32 weeks and have been on bed rest and tribuliin(?) I am now almost dialated to 4 and 75% effaced. The doctor mentioned that my water might break in the next week or two..

This is my 3rd preganancy but both of my other two I had the water broke in the hospital after I was in labor to progress things along.

I am wondering what it is like when your water breaks on it's own.. I would really love to hear from women on when this happened and what it was like for them. Thank you!!

For my first son, my water broke on it's own. It felt like I had peed my pants. Not a lot of water though. And not the same thing as urinating. Being pregnant you still know when you have to pee or not. I didn't feel like I had to use the bathroom when my water broke. It just happened , and I was so embarrassed. I kept saying 'I am so sorry for making a mess'. It happens when you least expect it to!
Good luck with labor and delivery. I hope all is safe and sound for you and your new baby! I would love to see pictures when your up to it. I'll give you my email later when and if you want to. :) I love babies so much!!!

Well a water birth can make childbirth a more relaxing and plesant experience. It can be very calming, especially when done at home with you're partner, or you should consider looking into birthing centres. You would usually need a trained midwife or doctor to be there when you give birth at home. To answer your other questions, Yes the baby is born into the water, it is impossible for the baby to come out breathing or to drown. In your womb, the baby is surrounded by fluid, and it does not breathe. After the baby is born, oxygen will continue to go to your baby from the umbilical cord until your afterbirth comes out. Instincts will tell your baby not the breathe untill it is out of the water. It is interesting that up to a few weeks old, babies who are put in water autimatically hold their breath, (don't try this though). As for the position, whatever you find comfortable is fine, usually you would either be on your hands and knees, or up against the edge of the tub on your back. Good luck! It's something you really should look into.

I went to the bathroom and after I was done peeing I felt a liquid coming out and i was sure it was not pee b/c I was finished. I went in the other room to tell my husband i had a liquid come out of me and all of a sudden it happened again. I knew then that it had broke. I sat on the tiolet and it kept coming out slowly. I called my doctor and put on a pad then left for the hospital. I started to have contractions about 30 minutes after my water broke. The nurses had to change the pads underneath me every 20 minutes for the first two hours I was there b/c the flow was so steady.

My water broke on it's own, in the exam room before the doctor saw me. I felt like I had to go to the bathroom again, I felt a lot of pressure, but when I went nothing came out. Then I had a horrible pain that I thought was a contraction but that lasted for about 2 minutes, then I felt wet and saw that I had water mixed with blood. My doctor checked and it was my water, the blood was just from my cervix being effaced and sensitive he said. 2 hours later my daughter was born.

My water broke at 4 in the morning, I jumped out of bed so fast because i thought I peed my pants, i started feeling the bed and myself and nothing was wet, i was thinking to myself did I just wet the bed and I was laughing. As i was doing this I felt like I was peeing again so I went to the restroom and nothing. I was putting water on my face and it happend again so I called my mom and sure enough all of a sudden it just started coming out, it didnt burst or gush it was more like trickle so it definetely felt like i was peeing. I put on a pad to soak it up until I got ready to go to the hospital. This was about 2 hours later and by the time I got there my pants were wet, so get there sooner. LOL.

Hey,
I was in labour when my water broke and I felt like I needed to go and wee so when I got out of the tub and sat on the toilet I had a contraction and cause I was pushing {was told not too but it was my body doing it} and I pushed and I felt a burst and it was like I was peeing but it wouldn't stop. And I couldn't stop it at all...
I thought it was scary considering the midwife told me it had already broken!

But it is different for every women so don't expect a huge gush because it can be a leek and you think your bladder has lost control!

What is your actual due date? I am due July 25. This is my second pregnancy and my water broke with my first one. I was actually early, like 11 days and I was about to take a bath and when I bent down to pick up an ear ring my water broke. It was not a big gush of water like some say. I actually thought I was peeing put it continued to run down my leg. It also has a smell to it. Not a nasty smell but it doesn't smell like urine. Good luck

I went to sit on the couch and it felt like the floodgates opened. For some people it will come out as a steady trickle, and sometimes a gush that lasts just a few minutes and then seems to stop or at least slow dramatically. Don't do the common thing and go sit on the toilet, just keep a towel where you can get at it and put that under you. (I don't recommend the couch, though! Ick. :-)

Mine broke the night before I was one week overdue. I had just went to the bathroom about midnight, and when I got to bed it felt like I was still peeing but it was clear. It wasn't much, so I just put a maxi pad on and went to bed. Never woke up with contractions or anything. So the next morning, I got up.....took a shower then called the doctor. I got to the hospital about 930 am and he was born at 710pm. My pad wasn't soaked either, but it was wet.

I had been in to be induced withthe prostaglandin gel...nothing happened so they sent me home (too many women in active labour to complete the rpocess) I was home a couple of hours and got up to go the bathroom...I sat down to pee, and it was a large gush...felt like a lot of water coming out and I couldn't stop it.
