I think that fast food has a big role in ti.
But also, that the society is more dependent on technology that they hardly move from their seats. They have everything they need at the touch of a button or telephone, so, of course, that reflects in gaining weight.
Also, I think that in the constant interest of making money, companies have long days, terrible hours, so workers don't have time or are compelled to exercise. They are exhausted.

Obesity is a epidemic that has become a pandemic of our society. It is not only that Americans' are eating away their money and health at fast-food restaurants, however, obesity has become a medical problem also. So many of Americans are now having obese children because it has become a widespread pandemic. The only way we can solve this probem is disciplining ourselves and our children on dieting and excersice and practicing healthy eating habits. Instead of the government banning fatty-acids, there should be more government programs, establishments and awareness on the health of our nation.

Yes America has become accepting of mediocrity and it is an epidemic of fatness/obesoty in America and as a thin american girl, I am a minority surrounded by grossly overweight beach whale women. Sorry to say that but its true. You know how tired I get of having to squeeze past 400-lb rotundas and rotund men standing in my way at the grocery store, blocking the walking aisle? It's annoying! And they resent me bc I'm skinny well thats bc I dont eat all day long! Its also bc Americans eat a lot of fast food and america is a food-loving culture, esp. unhealthy, greasy barbeque foods.

Too much television.
Too much fatty food.
Too many sit-down jobs.
Too much motor transport is required. Things in America are so spread out that you can't make your necessary daily rounds in a day's time, so driving a car or truck is necessary. And the time spent in the driver's seat is time that can't be spent doing wholesome exercise.

I think it really doesn't matter that much in the big picture. I don't care what people look like and we all have free will so we should mind our own business.
I have better things to worry about other than what my neighbor looks like. Perhaps you need to be more concerned with yourself as well.

First of all, it's "WHY is America so fat?"
Second, "America" is not a person.
What you need to ask is "Why are so many Americans fat?"
The answer is they eat too much.

I've seen quite a few morbidly obese people, including kids, in Canada, too.
Most eat too much garbage and they don't move around enough.
