the school system that you move to might not have a gifted program, you or your parents should look into it. If you believe in Kant, he said " The gifted take care of themselves."

My daughter, who is an education major at university, did a paper on this ... and her best example was that out of the 6 kids in our family, only those two who were in a gifted and talented program, and the disabled child in a special ed program, graduated high school. The others all kind of got lost in the shuffle. She is only one of those who went on to higher education, and one who did not graduate, who BTW has a genius IQ but was NOT placed in a talented and gifted program, also went on to further education, but likely would have done better had he been more challenged.

Yes, but every school district has a different way of serving their tag kids. The law says they must serve you but there is no federal money behind the program, so depending on where you go, you may or may not notice a difference. Tag is not supposed to be just more work. Take your records with you. the more knowledge the enrolling school has the better placement they can give you. Sometimes it is more important to be with the right teacher that in a special program.

Probably depends in part as to whether the new school system has a Gifted and Talented program already in place. If they do, you will likely be in it. As to different requirements, that would be up to each individual school district.

In my area students who move in from another district might have to retake the GATE testing depending upon the tests that were given in the prior district. If they are not equivalent to the ones we give students are retested. When you move into a new district and mark that you were GATE they should persue your records. Of course, not everyone is caught so I would suggest that you say something about retesting.

every child in gifted classes is retested periodically to make sure they are properly placed. if you go to another state, their criteria might be different and you might not be placed in gifted classes again. they would test you to make sure. each school system has their own way of deciding whether a child should go into any special class. make sure your new school knows that you were in gifted classes at your old school.

When you move, your school transcripts go with you. If it shows you do well in the G.A.T.E. program, they will leave you in there.

yeah, you might have to take the test again. or maybe your new school doesn't have GATE classes. in some places they call it ATG (Accademically Talented and Gifted)

*good luck. I hope you get in!
