Hmm... this should keep all the snakes away...

Move to Alaska.

Or....

Dig up all the plants in your yard, and remove all landscape features such as rocks and statuary... anything that would give a snake something to hide in.

Seal up the crawlspace under your house (if applicable).

Pave over your yard (don't want to give them anywhere to burrow)... oh wait... maybe they'll just think it's a big basking area after it's paved over....

You don't mention where you are or what type of rattlesnakes you've been finding in your yard, but if you're worried about kids, teach them what your local venomous snakes look like, and tell them that if they see any snakes in the yard to come find you. If you're worried about pets, supervise your pets while they are outside. If you're worried about yourself, a rattlesnake is not going to chase you down and bite you... you are way too big to eat and it doesn't want to waste it's venom on you or a kid or a dog or cat... all of them are too big to make meals from.

I suggest you sit down and do some research on your local snakes, maybe some understanding of what they do and how they live may allow you to live in harmony with them. Take a trip to a local zoo or serpentarium and take a good close-up look at a rattlesnake... they're beautiful... and consider yourself lucky... I only wish I had rattlers coming into my yard... it's been three or four years since I've even seen one, and it was only a 3 footer... it's been a very long time since I've gotten a chance to admire a full-grown eastern diamondback......

BTW: moth balls & lyme & coarse ropes or wires don't work. There's no such thing as a snake repellent & moth balls & other chemicals will more than likely harm your pets & kids.

To tell you the truth, there really is no way to get rattlesnakes to stay away. My best advice is if you see one just call the police and try to throw something over it to keep it there till help arrives. I had seen you earlier but no one has answered your question yet so I felt like I needed to tell you that. If you have any more questions or need to talk to me about something, you can email me at animlhelpr07@aol.com and I can help you further. Thanks
