the check i issued has been cashed, the "NPIC" states that it is being processed, I received an email saying that it is in Charleston SC Passport Agency-- I live in L.A.!
We called in on 06/07/07 to request for expedite.. the "NPIC" states that they'll fwd the information to the agency.. to date, we still don't have anything! =(
We're leaving next Tuesday! and we can't even schedule an appt for the agency here in L.A! We tried to contact the congressman for L.A. I don't know if they'll be able to help... are we just out of luck & out of our money because our tix are non-refundable?? or is there still hope?

You said that you live in Los Angeles? If you do, hurry up and go to the Federal Building in Los Angeles!!!! But QUICK!!!!!! It's off the 405 freeway exit Wilshire Blvd. You will have to wait in long lines but hopefully get your passport before your trip. We had that same problem with my boss's friends!!! Trust me it was a hassle. Contact me I will give you the info to call. This is happening because of the New Law that started in January. If you are traveling by plane to Canada, Mexico, and/or the Carribeans you now need a passport. But a lot of people have mistaken that you need a passport if you are traveling by car, train, bus, or ship. You don't need a passport by that means of transportation until 2008. All this had caused a demand in passports.

If you are in LA go brave the line. Its your only chance. Take all your pertinent paperwork with you and your tickets. Many times they can get your passport out in a day. I have done this! Its a pain in the a** but it can be done. Bring food and drinks. Its really a long line. Lucia's answer is a good one. Cut through the mail bull and go to the source.

As far as I know, US and Canada are experiencing higher than expected volume for passport application. The reason being is that new rule that requires passport for border travel. Try your options, like if you're a dual citizen, try to use your other citizen's passport.

Keep checking with the agency. If you live abroad, contact your nearest US Embassy.

I think you're in the wrong section. Try asking this question in US Travel Section.
