Yes I agree. But to play devil's advocate for a moment, when was the last time anyone stayed seated in the cinema when the credits rolled? Usually most people head for the exit as soon as it goes black. Whenever I go I always stay and read the credits. (and in some countries they do this anyway)
So unfortunately, people can't have it both ways with the TV as well. But I do agree it is annoying when they speed up credits, particularly if the soundtrack is amazing and you only hear about 10 seconds of it!

I know what you mean but I think advertisers feel the push to compete with TIVO and other DVR's. I am not bothered by a lot of things you mention but I hate the advertisements at the bottom of shows and movies, especially when they have sound effects. This is not necessary however because recent studies have shown that as long as someone watches a recorded program soon after recording they won't fast forward through those precious commericals.

it's a ratings war out there..would you sit and watch more commercials or let the end credits zip by with the station doing the advertising along with the credits...why would you want to watch the end credits? here's a clue ,,ever notice how fast technology has gotten and now you are concerned because it has caused heartache for you when you watch a movie on TV just for the credits..tip #1 -- Go buy a book

They do it to annoy the viewer.
I like to read the end credits and it miffs me off as well.
This was a complaint on the BBC points of view the other day but they just made light of it.
The BBC do not care to answer questions properly anymore.
You Just get flim flam for answers.

they just want the viewers to keep watching like you said it may be annoying especially if you want to know who so and so was, but what can you do grin and bear it and move on with your life or just buy the movie and find out who the people are

I know it's so aggravating!!
Especially when you were watching a sad or scary movie, and you're kind of recovering, and all of a sudden this big perky voice comes on and squishes the credits to one side.
urgh!!

I think that they do it for the reasons that you have just stated ie. copying onto video or DVD and then selling the copies on. They also do it on the radio with songs, ie. they add the DJ or jingles. It is their way of combatting copyright infringement.
