Umm, I like Jacksonville......Crime is not that bad, it basically just happens in the ghetto.....well with a city of 850,000 and 1,300,000 metro, traffic of course is bad but you'll get used to it; or just ride the city bus........adding to the traffic are the construction projects...NUMEROUS of them......some of them won't be finished until 2010........

I've only driven through Jacksonville, FL a few times and for the most part it seemed very crowded (traffic is really the only indicator I have). I've lived in Wilmington, NC for most of my life and depending on where you are in life, it can be a nice place to live. It's small in comparison to any big city but does have the luxury of the beach. Wrightsville beach is the main beach everyone goes to and access to carolina beach is only a 15-30 minute drive (depending on where you live). The job market is not so great for younger people looking to start a career. Also, the real estate is going up and up due to more and more tourists moving in due to the nice weather and beach areas (I'm assuming). There is no shortage of shopping centers. The restaurants here are also plentiful and there are alot of mom and pop type restaurants as well as chains. Traffic here really isn't that bad but people are not the best drivers (mainly the college kids or the elderly seem to be the problem that I've noticed) and Wilmington actually leads NC in car crashes annually, so your insurance will probably go up a little. There's little touristy things to do here like visit downtown, the battleship, and the beach. The main school is UNCW and there is Cape Fear Community College. There are four local high schools and I think about six or seven middle schools, and there seem to be more and more elementary schools popping up. Raleigh is about an hour and a half to two hour drive and Charlotte is about three hours away. Alot of people drive to Myrtle Beach to go shopping or go see shows and things like that. That's only about 45 minutes to an hour away. All in all, it's a nice place to live, but if you're younger, you may want to consider Jacksonville.

jacksonville is a large city with all the traffic and crime that goes with that.
wilmington is a small city with a college and nice stores and shops. I would recommend it.
