An element is the general name for a substance made from one kind of atom. Therefore, we would say the element gold is made from gold atoms. Gold is the element (the chemical itself, the subtance). It is composed of gold atoms. There's a slight difference.

An element is a substance composed of the same kind of materials (i.e. atoms). An atom is the smallest unit of a substance. They are not the same thing. Maybe an analogy would help...The USA is the element while Americans are the atoms that make up the element.

Usually, an element refers to many atoms of the element, in question.

the element is a substance that consists of one type of atoms. THERE are mono-atomic elements consist of one type of atom like Fe ,Na and Zn. Diatomic elements contain two atoms of the same type like O2 ,Cl2 and N2. Triatomic like O3. tetra -atomic like P4.............
