Cant tell you why, but for some reason he was one of my favorite players in my childhood. He played shortstop for the Padres in the franchis' infancy in the early '70s. He had more stolen bases than RBIs, about a .240 lifetime avg., but he was a pretty good defensive player.

I remember Enzo in the 1970's with the Padres. He had no power, did not hit for average, but he had speed. I have always been a big Dodgers fan and he killed the Dodgers every-time they played. He also made some great defensive plays at shortstop. He was so good against the Dodgers they acquired him the year before he retired. Not much else to say because he really didn't do much else that I can remember.

He certainly would not have been a choice for Fantasy Baseball, but he did have more walks than strikeouts. He was a great defensive shortstop but he could not beat out Mark Belanger of the Orioles, so he was traded to the Padres for Pat Dobson. His lifetime Average was .224 with 2 lifetime home runs.

He was often injured (his back) and that certainly hurt his career. I liked the Padres when I was a kid---Enzo, Derrel Thomas, Dave Roberts. Thanks for the memories!
