is the battery where the charging post is or somewhere else?If the red charging wire is sticking out of the battery,how do I remove the battery?Or if not,how do I remove the battery on a 2006 Sportster...

you may have to use a rubber coated screwdriver to stick in from opposite side of bike to remove negative cable.



lol, I get thumbs down from some douchebag . I have used this technique genius. probably turned more wrenches on more bikes than you have seen.

It's under the seat and behind the center post and it is a b*tch to get to the negative ground. Removing the seat will not expose the battery, only the frame over the battery. However, the positive ground is exposed when you remove the side cover on the left side of the bike. So, you can charge or jump start the battery by placing positive to positive and put the negative jumper to something metal on the engine like the transmission shifter. If you want to remove the battery, I suggest buying a maintenance manual or taking it to the dealer and have them replace the battery.

Should be behind the right side chrome cover just below the seat. It has a screw holding it in, located on the bottom side of the cover. The battery should be held in by a rubber strap that you un hook. The battery terminals are usually held in by a phillips head bolt that goes thru the battery terminal and thru the end of the cable and into a small nut behind that.

Most motorcycle batteries are located under the seat.
