I'm attending a summer program at a medical center and they have us housed at a nearby college. While here, a t-storm occurred and my microwave & mini fridge got damaged (they don't work anymore) and my TV doesn't have any color now. I know its not the outlet b/c i've plugged my appliances into other jacks that do work and they still do not work. Shouldn't I get compensated for this or something? Should I contact the people that are over housing at the college or the people over the program? Thanks

Not that I would have thought about it, but in the future, maybe we should all carry high quality surge protectors when we go to such places with expensive items.

The college may (or may not) reimburse you for your items.

They do have insurance, and they may be covered. Speak to your contact at your summer program (you know, your teacher, mentor, whatever) first.

Their program is responsible for housing you, and if something happened, they should know who to talk to to fix it.

Your microwave uses a small computer for the timer. And during the t-storm an electromagnetic power surge probably hit in your general neighborhood. Anything that is computer based during a t-storm can get fried because of the static electricity or electromagnetic current that a storm can generate.

Unless you have insurance that specifically cover such things, your probably out of luck. It's called an "Act of God".

your micro wave and TV took a direct hit, but new ones, and you can not sue, it was an act of god.
