I need to know for a worksheet, but it only covers the topics from the old text book, not the one I have. It says the Sumerians would go to a market place called . . .

I think John B is referring to the fact that some have suggested that the Sumerians were the first to have something that WE might regard as a "commodities market" (in which sheep and goats would be traded, for example).

But it was a crude form, and the Sumerians would hardly have thought of it the way we do, much less use such a special term for it.

Your question is slightly unclear. If what you are after is a Sumerian WORD for marketplace, the answer is probably TILLA which refers to a crossroads or marketplace (which would be held at a crossroads)

It was what is called today a "commodity market", that is, it used items to trade rather than money as an exchange medium.
