My boss told me today that I'm over sensitive. I'd never have described myself as such and I'm not sure how to remedy it. Any ideas what I can do to remedy this character trait?

My boss is a woman! Why does everyone assume that a boss is a man?

I have a very good sense of humour actually!

It's not necessarily a flaw, it can mean that yo are very empathetic which is a good thing. I don't know how you can remedy it really but I don't think you need to let it worry you too much.

Were you and your boyfriend hired for the SAME job with pretty much the same qualifications? If so, your boss seems to be doing a great job of establishing a pattern of favoritism. It might be hard to prove that he's being sexist, since you only have you and your boyfriend to compare. If he repeats the same pattern with other men and women (giving the men benefits that the women don't get), then you probably have grounds for a suit. Document what you see, because otherwise it will be your word against his. However, consider that he may simply have decided that your boyfriend is a better candidate and will be ready for more responsibility than you are. There could be all sorts of reasons for that. If you can do so without appearing confrontational, can you just ask your boss why some people are getting these benefits and you aren't? What you've typed indicate that his answer might be pretty lame, or at the very least, evasive. If so, then he's a jerk. Whether he's just a jerk or he's a sexist jerk who illegally discriminates against female employees remains to be seen, however.

Depends on the situation. I don't know what you do but your boss obviously felt it was a bad thing other wise she wouldn't have brought it up, well not a bad thing as such, just not good for the type of work you're doing. Where as in a relationship for example, being on the sensitive side could be considered a good thing. I wouldn't worry about trying to change yourself dramatically, you should be accepted for what you are, but just maybe ask your boss what situation she was talking about and try and improve in that area. I don't think she should have said it to such a point. I was a manager of a shoe shop before I joined the police and it's not a good thing to pin point a negative trait.

Just ask her to be a bit more to the point, and don't change for anybody!

Being over sensitive is a common trait with young people, how old are you? I ask because I tend to be over sensitive also but this was something I noted about myself in my younger years, now I run my own business my sensitive side has calmed down a lot. I am a sensitive person and fun loving and can take things to heart very easily but I have had to learn to stop that part of me where business is concerned, being able to take criticism is also something I have had to learn over the years. Does your boss like you, was this a personal attack or was she just passing comment about something she has noticed about your personality. I wouldn't worry too much as this will make you a very caring person and in touch with your feminine side ;)

In my view that was a bad thing to do, because now you will always be seen as over sensitive in the eyes of your boss.

Don't put such Great importance on what people assume...they may have things that they may have issues about, but why should that necessarily bother you.

"no one can make you feel inferior without your consent"

1st.don't lower yourself to just excepting him as the boss of how you feel.
he/she is in charge of the work environment not on how you feel about yourself.

good luck

That's boss language for "you can't handle working here", and I advise you to start looking for a new job, there could be a plan to make you so upset that you quit, or that you screw something up and they can fire you for it. Caution!

I had the opposite problem, my boss told me I was overly aggressive then he fired me. I took it as a compliment.
