Yes he should. I think that the Muslims should stop protesting and complaining about the littlest things all the sodding time!

No, for a number of reasons. First, that he has cost the taxpayer a fortune already in providing protection to him when a fatwa was pronounced following the publication of The Satanic Verses and I haven't seen any evidence that the royalties for such have either been allocated to reimburse that cost or, given to charity.I don't rate him highly as an author and I am unaware of his role in engendering a relationship between ourselves and Muslims, a role for which he could have been suited. His personal behaviour leaves a lot to be desired(but then again, so does mine!)and frankly, I do not understand on what basis the award was made but then again, I am against these archaic practises.

According to todays Daily Mail Rushdie was quite rude about Great Britain in his most infamous book. I don't think he has done anything to deserve a Knighthood. I would rather it went to a care worker, binman, doctor, volunteer worker etc; Someone who has made a more physical contribution to The UK.
Regarding the violent threats from Pakistan-rather predictable.

Rushdie doesn't live here and he spends a lot of time rubbishing this country.I've tried to read his books but they dont appeal to me.If he has upset people in Pakistan so what?
He has cost the taxpayers of this country millions of pounds for the security we provided for him after he wrote his "Satanic Verses",he made a lot of money from this book but never paid for any of the security.Does he pay tax in this country,I dout that very much.He should never have been put forward for this honour, who put his name forward?

For what - has anyone on here actually read his book...? It really is cr*p! No-one would even have heard of it, if the muslims had not given the free publicity that Rushdie craved! It helped both causes, and cost us many thousands of £s,.
So no, he should not be knighted, especially not for his writing.

He has upset many Muslims ... not all of them will be of the fanatical kind. This is not about the government. This is about the British Monarchy sanctioning blashphemy. I believe if the Queen has any sense of respect for other cultures/religions in her, she should exercise a veto on this knight hood. Not sure if she has the power to do so though ...
But if she has the power of veto ... and chooses not to use it ... she is on the bad flavour list with me ...
And i'm not even a Muslim.

Personally I don't think he should ... nothing do do with his offending Muslims or the such ... Just I don't think he's actually done anything to reward him getting a Knighthood, I could think of far more deserving people.

Regardless of any complaint about him. I don't think he should have been given one.
I haven't read any of his books, so it is fair to say I am not qualified to comment about them.
But the claim that it was awarded in response to popular public demand(people like me) sounds like rubbish and I don't believe it.
I haven't seen any petition or news paper clamour have you?

Yes and so should Galileo Galilei if he was alive today. Both men researched facts that put doubt into a religious faith.
