I really don't understand how this song is a hit...it has the most childlike lyrics i have ever heard...
example:
"she's like...so whatever
you could do...so much better"
i wish i could write lyrics like that and get millions of dollars! geez

i have no idea how society has managed to come to this! it must be all the teeny-bopper little girls watching the Disney channel. they like it because of the artist; not the lyrics. that's how Hilary Duff got so famous!
besides.....i think a song should have good lyrics, a catchy tune, and of course a talented singer/band! "girlfriend" doesnt quite fit into that.....infact, i do agree with how childish and immature she is by writing that song. i'm not criticizing her, so i hope i dont get banned for this.....i'm just questioning that song's existance.....................=/

THIS was supposed to be the mature coming-out party for Avril Lavigne? Even older music fans were expecting something like Amy Lee or the old Alanis Morrisette. This sounds like Kids Bop 14.
I was disapointed. They told us to expect a grown-up Avril and we got this candy-slop.
Glad someone else noticed!

Also like Ellen W said, if you hate that song so much then why are you wasting your time thinking and writing about it?!??!

I think it's only a hit because the song is so catchy. I like the remix version more than the original though. with Lil' mama.

what i dont understand is why everyone has a stereotype on adults, some adults make a living out of acting like children and JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE GETTING OLDER DOESNT MEAN YOU AHVE TO GET OLD. life would be a lot better if everyone saw it through the eyes of a kid.

good on ya i hate avril too,, i like rock music and rock songs have a lot of words that actually make sense and are more sophisticated but hey thats just my opinion XD

I hear ya, some songs really do leave a lot to be desired, lyrics wise. Unfortunately, it seems like those are the songs you get stuck in your head all damn day.
