Gratz to you. I would start timing contractions. My wife was in active labor when she was 80% effaced and 2 CM's.
Happy motherhood.

If you are already 3 cm dilated and 100 effaced that is great.
That means you only have 7cm to go to delivery. Remember transition will happen at 8 cm. I think that you will go any time now.
100 % effaced means that the cervix is at its thinnest
and all your body has to do now is go into active labour.
Sometimes this will start with cramping and a dull back ache.
Also it is around this time that you will start to nest. So if you suddenly decide that it is a good time to scrub the floor, that is a sure sign. You may experience a bit of show, clear watery blood, any heavy bleeding should be reported to the doctor at once. You may also lose your mucous plug or your water could break. Only some of these things will happen, every woman and every pregnancy is different.
Once in active labour stay upright as much as possible. Walk if you can, take someone with you. This will help labour along.
You may have a shorter labour because of the dilation and the effacement. Some women take hours to get to three cm and you are already there.
Good luck and congrats

RE:
I am 3cm dialated and my cervix is 100% effaced.?
I am due in less than a wk, first pregnancy. The doc said he could come anytime now but what does that mean? Has anyone had the same experience with being 100% effaced? I know this is a difficult question to answer...mother nature will take it's course but any of your advice or knowledge...

No, it doesn't mean anything really. While yes, at 90% your cervix has less work to do to thin out and therefore dilation can happen more easily, that does not automatically mean it will happen faster. Getting to 4cm and 100% is always the longest part of the process. Even if you start out at 3cm it can take quite a long time to get to 4cm sometimes. But once you're laboring and hit that 4cm mark, then it is on average about a 1cm change per hour until you reach 10cm. But it's highly variable - women can jump from 4 to 10 in a matter of minutes, but it would be unusual for that to happen with a first pregnancy. It's very normal to have severe, sharp pains that are felt in the vagina and deep inside as though you feel your cervix splitting open. But if you're not contracting it's probably not labor. Definitely call your doctor if you're not sure and describe what you're feeling and let them decide if you need to be evaluated in the office or at the hospital. Good luck!

I was 3cm and 80% effaced for 2 weeks! They swore I'd go early but no go! Now I am 40 weeks and they are going to induce me this week- 2 days post due date. I felt like the docs and nurses in the office get you excited when really there can be quite a wait. I tried everything to induce labor naturally with no luck. They even stripped my membranes last week. Try to relax (sorry.... I know I hate when people say that!) and good luck!

wow. are you getting contractions? Effaced means that your womb has opened up in preperation for the birth . You are only a cm away from active labour. I was in a lot of pain when I was at your stage. So you must be doing really well! Ill bet it will only be a day or so...but I would think not long!
Good luck! being a mum is great xxx

I've been in the same boat that you have. I was 38 wks, 3cm dilated and 100% effaced. I went into the hospital after I didn't feel the baby move for several hours. The hospital admitted me and after walking for just 20min, I dilated another 3cm (WALK, honey, WALK!). My labor was 7hrs and I'm hoping that I have the same luck I had w/ my 1st pregnancy. Good luck to you!

Got your bag packed;ready to go?Labor may begin at any time 2cm dilated 90-100% effaced. The pain may be the baby pressing on your cervix. Usually the baby stops moving as much before labor begins. Sometimes women experience most of their labor 'pains' in their lower back area. Take it easy and call your doctor. especially if your water breaks contractions start since you're already dilated-hope this helps-perhaps you're already on your way to the hospital- congratulations on the imminent birth of your child
