Can you spray anything on them to keep them from getting so dirty, so fast?

Use a protectant like Scotch Guard. Available at WalMart or at a fabric store.

Oh, do I have an inexpensive answer for you, been there done this many times over the years! You can spray them with Magic Sizing or any other ironing spray starch. Coat well then let air dry. This is a great product to keep on hand! It also works on other things like car seat upholstery and dining chair cushions!

I believe Scotchgard makes a product that will help.
