Should we shut down these Spanish speaking TV stations (such as Telemundo and Univision) to help aid in the attempt to curb illegal immigration?

These immigrants are telling their families back in Mexico, that America will adjust to THEM, not the other way around as it should be. By doing this, we are telling these illegals that it is okay to come here and they will suffer no consequences. These immigrants need to know that they have to adjust to America.

Absolutely not. But Arnold (who was an immigrant), made a very important point. Those coming here should shut them off (most of the time) and immerse theirselves in English.

No. I don't agree. Put the shoe on the other foot. If an American TV station broadcast a call by an opposition politician to kill Bush or Obama, and called it an "editorial," how long would it be before the Secret Service, the U.S. Marshals or the FBI would surround the building, and the Home Shopping Network got themselves another channel? I have my problems with Chavez, but you need to view stories by the U.S. corporate-run media with a little skepticism. Under any reasonable legal doctrine he has the right to shut 'em down RIGHT NOW. But he's just threatening. He's a lot more reasonable than most U.S. liberals and conservatives. . .

No because that would be a violation of freedom of speech. American immigrant families have a long history of speaking English *pubically* and their native language *privately.*

What about tv/radio in other languages? Many communities have this available on public access tv or low wattage radio stations.

Not everyone who speaks Spanish is an illegal immigrant. In fact, Puerto Rico is full of Spanish speakers who are legal us citizens.

The rest of world seeing being able to speak more than one language as a positive thing. That should be celebrated in real life not just inflicted on school children in ineffective attempts to teach them Spanish, French, German or whatever starting in middle school.

At one time there was lots of foreign language programming on radios and many foreign language newspapers in the US. It's part of our heritage. We are a nation of immigrants who have brought a wide variety of gifts to American culture.

So, what you're essentially saying is that by making this Country Socialist thereby allowing the government to control corporations and the markets they wish to attract will curb immigration? Not a very American Capitalistic idea. (By the way, are you even aware that there are also a considerable number of Asian and European immigrants that are illegal?)

Telemundo and Univision are channels that broadcast all over Latin America as well.

If you want people to learn English, go teach or volunteer. That will help.

NO! wait....why? oh ok now i see why....ok still NO! i like Telemundo. and that isn't fair to those who are not here illegally. they have earned the right for their citizenship here. America will have to just do better to make their illegal immigrants adjust to the rules. so that it is fair for all.
