Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol are great books. They are classics. I do like Dickens, and many others do too. Nonetheless, every person has their own tastes, so any given person may or may not like Dickens. The only way you can know if you like Dickens or not is to read one or more of his books.

I have never read anything by Charles Dickens until right now, actually. I am currently reading A Tale of Two Cities and, although I just started it and am still relatively at the beginning of the story, I think it's a good book.

Yes, I like Charles Dickens. The characters which he created in his books seem to come alive, they are so vividly described and projected that one could almost meet them in their mind coming down the street. Dickens' story plots are also very good, making his books interesting, exciting and you just want to read on. Dickens often write, reflecting the social conditions of his day.

Yes. One would have to put him at or near the top of not only English authors but those of the world. He does an excellent job of character development, his characters have the personality that they need for the part they have in his books, he displays a good sense of the life in London through his characters lives and his own description. Dickens was able to make his character so appropriate for their role. One of the best things I like about his writing are the names of his characters. They are so unique. He can really tell a story. If only we had more writers like him. Maybe we are only allowed one Dickens in a lifetime.

no i do not like dickens, for the same reason i don't like tolkien, they both take much too long to say something that could be easily said quickly, for example, they both take around a paragraph to describe an insignificant piece (such as in A Christmas Carol dickens took around half a page of text to describe the ghost of xmas present's throne)

He might have been great and all, but seriously, after reading Hard times, which in my opinion is the most boring book created by a living human being, you will never want to hear the name of Charles freaking dickens ever again. I'm not joking. If you can come out of reading hrad times and still like him, you're related to him, or you have no soul

Yes, Great Expectations is my favourite book by any author. I haven't read all of his books yet, but I have read several. He has a wonderful way with descriptions which make his characters all the more interesting, and I love the fact that he usually has at least one semi-comic character. Even in the most tragic stories he is able to introduce an element of comedy.
