Can't someone else do it?

Here's the issue:

The United Nations was designed as the international body that helps nations play nice.

If nations don't play nice, then the UN can tell them, "You're not playing nice, cut it out."

If they still don't play nice, the UN can ask all of it's members not to play with them. (Think 'economic sanctions.')

If they STILL don't play nice, the UN should call upon its member nations to go spank them. (Military intervention.)

But the UN doesn't have an army, it has to rely on everyone else's to get the job done.

Now for the bigger issue: the United States thinks that IT is more important than the United Nations. It wants to be the tail that wags the dog, so to speak. We don't pay our UN dues any time we don't want to, we only loan them our army when we think it's in our best interests, and if we ask them for permission to 'spank' someone and they don't give it, we spank 'em anyway. We CREATED the United Nations, but don't CONTROL it, and for some strange reason, we continue to act as though we should.

When the US wasn't policing the world in the 1920s somebody called Hitler came to power. The US said it wouldn't inter fear with the rest of the world, and in the end millions of innocent people were killed. I think that now that the US is the only superpower in the world the leaders want to make sure nothing that terrible ever happens again.

Who do you suggest? We are the world most super power and we are always the one that other countries call for help. Would you like to go fight?

I didn't think so.

no we don't have. as a matter of fact doing it too much has gone to our head. the UN should be doing it. other countries have let their status go to their heads as well, that's why some think they are above making alliances- even for the greater good.

countries (us included) get too caught up in what will benefit ourselves. we fear another world war and we fear another holocaust. instead of confronting those fears we let things pile up. that's why there are genocides going on as I type this and bad people gaining power and nations getting angrier and angrier at one another.
ignoring these things only leads us to more suffering and killing of people and more chance of big wars.

(as far as WW2 goes- if we and other nations would have intervened earlier it never would have gone as far as it did.)

Because, historically, it is the U.S. that has had to bail out most of the other countries out of the jams they got themselves into. Just ask Britain and France.

No one else comes to mind. The UN is ineffectual. I don't think we really want China or Russia to be doing it. No one else really has the resources.

It's the only way the U.S. can stay number one.
It's like a big game of "King Of The Mountain", but on a global level.
