The department of labor doesn't have authority over expense reiumbursement. My ex boss has promised, in writing, on three different occasions that he would send a check for the total amount due. Now he won't return my phone calls or emails. How do I collect the money he owes me?

As long as you have all the documentation that the expenses were valid business expenses and the written statements showing promise to pay.....take him to civil court and get the reimbursement there. You can claim the exepnses and any court fees/costs be paid by the employer.

you would need to prove in court that he agreed to this. with at will employment, without an attached contract, the employer is only obligated to pay wages. and if you lose in court, the employer can petition the court for reimbursement of attorney fees. you could be in way over $500 when all is said and done.
