WW2 is a combination of several factors.
1. Treaty of Versailles, which was primarily dictated by the French prime minister Georges Clemenceau who wanted the defeated countries to pay.US President Wilson actually had a 14 point plan that he thought would bring stability to Europe. Lloyd George, Prime Minster of England, secretly believed Wilson had the better plan but had been convinced by Clemenceau and the British people that a more severe punishment was needed against Germany.
2. Rise of Fascists regimes in Europe and the threat of Communism made some leaders not sure which was the greater threat to their country.
3. Failure of the League of Nations. It never truly established itself as a global leader where countries could come together to solve issues.

PS - to state Germany was the cause of WW1 is understanding (greatly) the events that occurred just before war started.

The easy answer would be Hitler.
My answer is Gavrilo Princip.

I think that that WWII was a continuance of World War I, and Gavrilo Princip started that war.

My reasoning, Hitler fought in WWI. He and the rest of Germany was traumatized after the First World War.

The social change that came about after WWI gave rise to Nazism and in turn Hitler power. Hitler's promise of, making the people who brought the German people down pay for their sins, and his "New Wold Order", was the right message, at the right time, to the right people. They followed the "Pied Pipper".

If Gavrilo Princip had not killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand then WWI might not have happened.

If WWI did not happen then the German people might not have given total power to the Nazi and Hitler.

If Hitler had not came into power then there might not have been WWII.

Their nuclear program was seriously hampered by political ideology. Many of the best and the brightest physicists and chemists were Jewish. The Nazis basically drove them out of their jobs and forced them out of Germany. Another issue was the direction of funding for the war effort. It took a great deal of political will to create a program like the Manhattan Project. Germany did not expend the dollars needed for such a huge and expensive project. Funding went to other areas. It's been suggested part of the problem lay with Hitler's basic misunderstanding of the potential for nuclear weapons. Not sure how valid that reason is, but given Hitler's penchant for meddling in military matters, this isn't too much of a stretch.

If you read Keynes' "The Economic Consequences of the Peace", the answer is pretty clear: Clemenceau. After the end of World War I, he insisted on a peace agreement, whose terms would drive Germany into permanent poverty (thus making the resurgence of German militarism a matter of time). Lloyd George and Wilson simply stood by and let him get away with it...

After world war one, Germany was blamed for it and a lot of it's land was taken by the allies (America, Britain, and Russia). This was called the treaty of versailles. The germans had their reputations destroyed. They felt terrible. Also, america sunk all their ships, not wanting to go to war again. After about 20 years, hitler came about and told the germans of greatness, persuaded them to regain their social status, and be world rulers. This galvanized them and that started the war.

WWii was a brainstorm by Pope Pius xii. His plan was to cause great turmoil in Europe to cover up the Holocaust. Pius was the brain, Ft. Knox was the gold for NAZI arms. Hitler was the machinery.
All the allied nations were involved in the Holocaust.

Both World Wars were Germany's horribly terrible idea of uniting the world...

...by squashing it all dead flat under their fascist feet...

(right now, they're probably gearing up for a 3rd try, with The Pope being German, and Arnold being governor of Cally-Forn-Nia...

and the mysterious murder of Bob Crane, otherwise known as...

"Hogan..."

Coincidence?!?

I think not...(and that's Germany's problem, too...thinking not...)
