Illness knows no age. I am 33 and have had 10 surgeries, but the good news is I am okay.
Take a deep breath and remember you won't get better until you know what you are dealing with. Knowing is far less stressful than wondering. And chances are strong whatever they find is fixable - they have learned so much about medicine in the last 10 years even.
Focus on how wonderful it would be to no longer have this problem.
If you are like me the imagination is working overtime thinking of all the horrible things it MIGHT be. Try not to play this guessing game.
You are a nurse so you know the worst but you also see the people helped by medical intervention - try to remember all the patients you see who go home and recouperate just fine - the odds are in your favor for complete recovery no matter what you have.
Whatever it is - it already is - nothing you do can alter that. You can only control how you react, and you will find you have so much more strength than you realise. Human's are far tougher than they know.
And don't worry alone. No matter how embarrasing find a friend or therapist or doctor to talk with. I have a saying "You'd be insane if this process didn't make you a little crasy" Cut yourself some slack, distract yourself, redirect your focus to the positive of getting a diagnosis, and know that you are tougher than you may think.
Good luck - I hope you don't need it.

As a nursing student I totally understand what you are going through. Its like the more medical education I get the more I worry when I get a cold or have a chest pain...etc. Use your education to your advantage. Consider all the possibilities....it may not be the worst. What are the statistics, how rare is the condition you may have? Even if it is the worst then keep your head up, get the best treatment, and live everyday as happy as possible. I have no idea what your condition could potentially be but let me tell you this...
Even in the medical field miracles happen everyday...medicine as you know is not a completely exact science.
As a nurse you should know that DOCTORS are not always right.
A stomach ulcer is not that hard to treat when caught early enough. Nexium combined with antibiotics usually takes care of them. Make sure that they take a sample to test for H. pylori, make them sedate you with Versed and you will wake up feeling much better that you will at least know what is going on. The not knowing is the worst part.

I will tell you one thing, what ever the examination, you have to be positive in thinking, you have to accept what ever the result. I had gone for an HIV tested and when i got the results my mind was clear and am able to take good care of myself. so if u think its cancer u can still live a normal life just like someone who is on ARVs, cheer up the is nothing to worry about

Not knowing is the worst part. Once you know one way or another, you can form a plan and take action. Your focus will be back and you'll feel a lot more in control. Think of it this way - if a patient you were dealing with told you this, what would you say? Don't you think that advice is good advice for you too?
Good luck, and many blessings!

I had the same examination years ago, having a camera down my throat and into my stomach.
I had an ulcer which was easily treated with medication, so don't worry because that's probably all you have got, and worrying will only stress you out.
If the hospital thought you had cancer they would have e-rayed first or scanned with ultrasound.
So stop worrying and good luck!

hi,firstly calm down ,i had a gastroscopy a few weeks ago ,just ask for sedation ,you won't remember a thing and if you are anxious it's better for you and easier for them, ulcers can be caused by gastritis,or anti inflammatory tablets it's not always a worse case scenario, never go in thinking doom and gloom ,my mum had ulcers from taking ibuprofen and i can't touch any anti inflammatory drugs because i'll end up with ulcers too, plus stress makes it worse because of the build up of stomach acid, i'm 32 and i have been having loads of trouble with everything since i was 18,try to stay calm and don't worry about things.

Please try to think positive as you prepare for the examination. I know how difficult it may be, but you have to think positive. This is where your faith comes in. Pray that all will be okay. It's only human to think the worse but for your own peace of mind, pray & keep a positive attitude. I've been in your shoes a few times but I prayed daily & kept a positive attitude. My results were happy ones. Just tell yourself that if the results aren't happy ones, then God will get you through it. I will keep you in my prayers. :)

Can't really cheer you up, but you have to cross each bridge in turn. Whilst you feel anxious millions around the world are in a living Hell. I wish you well. I suggest you go to the jokes and riddles section, there's usually a smile or two waiting there. Good luck.
