how is the new ford fusion holding up in mileage and safety rankings?

I am considering buying one of the SE styles. How are the ratings for this car?

The 2007 Fusion has very good safety ratings. Consumer Reports gave it the top rating in safety. Mostly because they added airbags on the side standard.

Mileage? Not so great. My V6 SEL Fusion is only averaging about 18.5 mpg in real world driving. My driving is mostly a mix of about 50% city and 50% expressway. I've heard the 4 cylinder does quite a bit better.
