6 x 10^6

In order for a number to be in correct scientific notation, the following conditions must be true:

1. The coefficient must be greater than or equal to 1 and less than 10.
2. The base must be 10.
3. The exponent must show the number of decimal places that the decimal needs to be moved to change the number to standard notation. A negative exponent means that the decimal is moved to the left when changing to standard notation.

A number written in scientific notation is that number written as a number between 1 and 10 times a power of 10. You move the decimal point right or left until there is one digit to the left of the decimal point and then multiply it by:
10 to the power of the number of places you moved the decimal point to the left, e.g. 365 = 3.65 x 10^2
or 10 to the negative power of the number of places you moved it to the right, e.g. .25 = 2.5 x 10^-1.
So 6,000,000 = 6 x 10^6.
