I wondered the same thing until I was watching my little girl, who isn't old enough to even crawl yet and she's constantly pushing with her feet to either flip over or scoot or reach for something and slips and if she had some sort of grip she'd accomplish her task alot easier. So when she gets tummy time I always take her socks off so she can get better traction, none of hers have the little grippy things on them.

its for the ones that do walk and so they wont slip and fall. or its for when you are holding the babys hands and supporting them and like helping them walk... do u get what im saying if not them im sorry .. lol
