Because England was still all the rage and many things were influenced by American service people that had just come back from England while serving during world war 2. Mainly inthe 50's and 60's. That's where the Corvette came from. Many service people were shipping Austin Healys back to the states thus Chevy came up with the Corvettein the early 50's. Same type of thing... And don't forget the Beatles were from there and showed up in the early 60's

"Bedknobs and Broomsticks" was partly an attempt to capitalize on the success of "Mary Poppins" by drawing from a very similar source: a British children's book about a magical caretaker of young children with combination live action/animation sequences.
"The Sounds fo Music" is not a Disney film, so it really doesn't fit into this pattern.

it was a way of including the other major buying power in Disney at that time. England was second to the u.s. in sales and it was Disney's way of getting a good foothold into the u.k.
