Love is a LOT of things. Would we live better without it? I greatly doubt it. Without brotherly love, there is no motivation to do good to others. Without some motivation to not be a selfish jerk, then we'd all be in sad shape. Without the parental love, all of us would be treated poorly as children and would never learn how to share or praise or act civil toward one another. We would all have low self esteem and anger inside us. Without romantic love, there would be little motivation to commit to someone for your life. I can't speak for everyone, but I would personally be MUCH less better off if I did not find the love of my life like I did.
Love encompasses much more than this, too, but I don't have time to write a book. Alas, I suspect my three examples pretty much prove my point anyway. No. We would not be better off without it.

Love is amazing, even if you're not loved back. It is the most wonderful thing you could even imagine; even better than some can. If we lived without it, I don't even want to envision a loveless world!!!

It depends on if you need it. Yes if you need someone to share your triumphs and failures. No if you're self-secure and want to save yourself a helluva lot of money.
