yeah, normally stress causes green one's to turn brown, mating is a cause of stress, but sometimes just plain brown ones are born, its fine, and it will work.

okay anyone answering this question by talking about their anoles changing colors shouldn't even own a lizard let alone answer the question. Green Anoles and Brown Anoles are different anoles. A green anole changing its color to brown DOES NOT make it a brown anole. That's like painting a ferrari and saying it's a camaro. Green anoles possess the ability to change colors to brown but it's usually a sign of stress, environmental conditions, or even camouflage. A brown anole does not change color, has different physical characteristics and designs, lives closer to the ground, and is NOT a green anole that has changed to brown.

The two species don't seem to hybridize in the wild although they are in the same genus. Introduced brown anoles tend to push native green ones out of an area. I have also heard of captive mating between the two but have never seen a photo of a supposed hybrid.

Don't all anoles have the ability to be either green or brown depending on their mood and surroundings? I am sure they can successfully mate and the offspring would be fine.
