2 QUESTIONS!

I'm selling my wedding rings... I just had them cleaned up and appriased by a jeweler. He told me not to sell them to a jeweler or one of those crappy "we buy jewelery" places because they would rip me off. He said my best bet is to sell them on my own.

I guess my only real option is ebay being that nobody reads the newspaper. I have only used ebay about 12 times since I signed up in 2001 so my score is 12. (question 1) Will that deter somebody from buying from me? The rings are worth $15K and I'm hoping to get at least $10K.

(question 2) Other than taking my chances with ebay, does anyone know of a better way for me to get the most possible money and securely?

Thanks!

(please do not answer with opinions on selling my rings or if you don't have an answer to my actual question)

Actually, you might be surprised who reads the paper. I sold my car in 1day after listing it in the classifieds.

I you sell on ebay you can always choose to select a minimu price that has to be met before the sale is final - but you have to pay more for the listing.

Craigslist is also an option - it works sort of like an internet classified.

You aren't going to get 10K for the rings. Ebay might work, but make sure you get the buyer to use paypal or a money order. Don't accept a check.

You actually might try the newspaper or Craigslist, but you are really going to have to revise the price. I would think you would be lucky to get 3-5k. I am not trying to be rude, it's just that the diamond market is saturated and most people don't want to buy used rings.

In order to make sure you get the best represenation. Make sure that you can verify the authenticy of the rings, have an appraisal on hand to prove their value, and take and post nice pictures.

Warning - wholesale price of a diamond set is only around 10% or so of the retail price, so you might not have a real good chance of getting the $10K that you want.

And if you do sell on ebay, be VERY careful not to get scammed.

Good luck.

if you decide to sell on ebay its not like you will loose money, all you have to do is put a resreve on the rings at the rock bottom price you will accept, if no one reaches your reserve then there is no sale. other than that advertise in your local papaer and surrounding papers.

good luck
