Because in the U.S., women equate democracy and freedom with the following:

-Bleaching their hair blonde;
-Shopping for clothes and shoes most of the time;
-Most of them don't keep up with current events and ignorance about their own history;
-Being ungrateful about how good they've got while women and girls are dying in Darfur due to violence and hunger.

It's entertaining. You can make unimportant things sound and important, you can make difficult but unimportant choices. Last but not least, we like to look pretty. We seem to easily buy into illusion that the next fashion is prettier than the old one. Also - vanity: if you wear Prada, people look at you differently, or so we think. For that reason we keep hunting for expensive brands on sale.

Our approach to shopping is usually different than that of men's. We just look around and see if there is anything that fits us, our budget and our wardrobe. Men seem to have a particular thing in mind they want to buy. A pair of slackers, for example. They walk in, try on 3 or 4 pairs, select the one that fits best, pay and walk away. Men are square. We are curvy. Something that's the right size ought to fit the guy. Our curves are slightly different from one person to another. Our clothes is often fitted, not loose. There is no guaranteed fit. When I'm shopping for jeans, I try on 5-8 pairs, find nothing, get all frustrated and walk away. If I allow myself to try on a few tops and maybe a dress along wit that, I'm more likely to find at least *something* to buy even though goal of buying jeans is not reached, I feel a little better for spending so much time in the store.

Why do men love to watch sports is the same kind of mistery.

I'm female, and I absolutely detest shopping!
One possible explanation about why women shop; it's a hangover from our days as hunter/gatherer societies.

Cause its what we do!
Also that when we shop, we woman buy alot of things. Clothes, shoes, hats, even hygiene products. But, these things help us stay pretty or whatever we like to stay. We have higher standards then men so we we need something, we get it! It also is kinda fun, i don't know why. Getting more stuff, holding big bags of clothes, its just so exhilarating :D

Guys have there hunting, so when we need to realive of there awful ways, WE HUNT FOR SOMETHING TO HELP US!

It realives stress :) Makes us happy that we got alot of stuff.

Dates back to times of hunting and gathering. Men hunt (now just for women) and we gather (Prada, Michael Kors, anything on sale that's cute). I know this sounds very tongue in cheek, but I think my answer is about as close as you'll get to the truth. ;-)
