If the price tag is right. Rumor has it he is asking somewhere in the range of 12-15 million. Say what you want about Americans, but Zidane has created a cult following amongst many Americans who are not soccer fans, but were in love with his headbutt. I am pretty sure he would probably make a better impact when it came to bums in the seats and endorsements if he played in the MLS compared to beckham. Do not get me wrong beckham is the superstar, but I think he will be more of a draw to European soccer fans who are more or less apathetic towards the MLS, Zidane I think can really create new fans. Attract the Americans with the headbutt and keep them with the skill you posses with the ball.

No, he needs to stick to retirement, because he is a great and his career should have ended at a great club.

As for coming to the MLS, I would definitely say Toronto would be the only way to go :)

TV Ratings will rise, Fan attendance will rise, MLS interest will rise (2nd to when Beckham isn't playing). It won't matter if he sucks or if people hate him, the first few months people will be watching, then if he sucks people won't care. So if your looking for a publicity stunt that's worth atleast 2-3 months, then sure.

NO; it would be an unsatisfying experience for him; he doesn't need the money or the adulation. It would be great for the true soccer fans in this country ; don't look for it to happen.

Major League Soccer (MLS)

New York, New York 10018

PHONE: (212) 450-1200
Official web site: www.mlsnet.com
e-mail: feedback@mlsnet.com

I have listed the contact information for everyone to write or call Major League Soccer to let them know we want the best top-level quality players in the world to play in the U.S.

Especially ZINEDINE ZIDANE. Maybe if they hear from enough fans they will take better steps to get him here!!!!

It would be a dream for him to come to the U.S. to play. My friend is a former international player from Argentina and has connections in the MLS. He told me that Zinedine was in talks to come here, but MLS didn't want to pay him what he asked ($15 million a year). According to the MLS Designated Player Rule (which is now called the Beckham Rule as of November 2006) the league would pay him $400,000 per season as they will pay David Beckham or any other designated player.

MLS turned him down. Surely they can get major sponsors to come up with the difference like they have done for Beckham. He also wanted to play in Los Angeles with Beckham, but they want him to be in another city.

I don't know what is up with MLS, but it is very upsetting to me. They want to continue to grow slowly and not get a lot of high priced players like the former NASL North American Soocer League which was highly successful in the 1970's and paved the way for other professional soccer in the United States. MLS always mentions they don't want to be like that league.

Give me a break!!!!!! That league put soccer on the map in this country. Some of the greatest players of all time played in the U.S. PELE, RODNEY MARSH, GEORGE BEST, FRANZ BECKENBAUER to name just a few.

MLS was also in talks to bring LUIS FIGO to play for New York, but as we all know he is not coming here either.

The Columbus Crew couldn't even talk former MLS All-Star BRIAN MC BRIDE into coming back to play. They couldn't even match his $2 million a season contract he gets for playing at Fulham FC in the Premiere League.

As an American, I do not even watch MLS or follow it!!! I am on my computer everyday following European soccer instead.

I still can't believe Beckham is coming here. On July 1st when he arrives in the U.S. I will then follow MLS. Hopefully, his great top-level skills will be utilized, since MLS is not on the same level of exciting play as the rest of the world.

No matter what the Red-headed know-it-all - Alexi Lalas thinks about the level of play in the MLS. I have added Lalas' comments from World Soccer Magazine.

Maybe know-it-all Lalas can talk the MLS into bringing one of the greatest players ever to the U.S. - ZINEDINE ZIDANE.

WORLD SOCCER MAGAZINE
June 19, 2007

LA Galaxy's general manager Alexi Lalas has described the Premier League as an 'inferior product', and accused critics of Major League Soccer ahead of David Beckham's
impending arrival in America, of ignorance.

Beckham will join LA Galaxy on 1st July to begin his career in a league that has often been ridiculed in the English press.

However, Lalas believes English football that the difference in quality is not as pronounced as critics of MLS have suggested.

"We may be Americans but we're not stupid," said Lalas in an interview with The Guardian.

"We know when we're being patronized and I get so irritated when I hear the experts in England talk about David Beckham as if he's going into semi-retirement by leaving Real Madrid for Los Angeles.

"That's ignorance of the first degree because almost every one of those critics has not even seen a single MLS game.

"It's insulting to us and to our sport to say Beckham is on his way to Hollywood when he's coming to play in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

"There are a lot of stars in European football who would struggle over here. But Beckham has done his homework on this league, and his team-mates, and he recognizes the merit of American soccer."

Lalas also attacked the standard of play in the Premier League.

"You know, there's no accounting for bad taste," Lalas added. "The fact that a segment of the world worships an inferior product in the Premiership is their business.

"In England our league is considered second-class but I honestly believe if you took a helicopter and grabbed a bunch of MLS players and took them to the perceived best league in the world they wouldn't miss a beat and the fans wouldn't notice any drop in quality.

"English football now has the haves and the have-nots, and even the top four in the Premiership may be narrowing down to two.

"But because of the structure of our league and the salary cap our competition runs deep. It's just that the Premiership have become so skilled in presentation."
