Besides the above answer.. when you connect to someone elses router.... they are connected to YOU as well! You are on the network with them and it is a LOCAL connection. If they wanted they could track every single transmitted and received packet you sent! It has recently been noted that some ID Thefts are happening through the use of "OPEN" networks.

If you have any shared folders (which are shared by default on most computers) they can very easily open your machine. So if you feel LUCKY just keep on using that FREE wifi!
Just dont put anything on your computer that is sensitive in nature or expect to have any privacy at all.

well it all depends on how muc "monitoring" they do... no if they have an unsecured internet -- i doubt that they actially check their network traffic.

No as far as whether they can tell if it's bearshare/limewear-- you would need to go to the logs and read what ports were used-- then connect that info to the fact that such ports are used buy those programs.... so once again- if they are using unsecured connections -- they probably do not know how to do it.
Still be carefull

Not only is using someones Wi-Fi terrible, it is also illegal in every State and by Federal Law.

In the last month I have read many articles (at web Tech News sites) of people caught using Wi-Fi illegally. All have received prison time plus large fines.

So, enjoy your stolen Wi-Fi signal while you can. I'm sure your State Prison will not provide it.
