Go study Civics. The Presidential veto is a part of checks and balances. It guarantees Congress doesn't "get too big for its britches". On the other hand, Congress can override the Presidents veto with a 2/3 vote, thus preventing the government from becoming a dictatorship.
The President doesn't hold absolute power. He shares power with Congress and the Supreme Court. Recently, the Supreme Court said that detainees at Gitmo should be allowed legal counsel. President Bush had to allow them to have lawyers. Not very dictator-like.
You seem to give Congress much more credit than they deserve. Working on and passing a bill that the President will sign is part of their job. I will shed no tears if they have to work a little overtime to get that done. They already get paid more than they're worth. They may as well earn it.

First of all, the US is NOT A DEMOCRACY!!!! Everyone please stop calling it that. We are a Constitutional Republic. Nowhere in our Constitution is the word DEMOCRACY even mentioned.
Now for your question. The reason a Veto does not make the President a dictator is that Congress can override a Veto with a Super Majority vote. The President doesn’t even have final say for all the Bills proposed in Congress… Congress does. Thus, making each bill the "will of the people"

The president is allowed to veto bills in order to provide a balance against congress.
If the President vetoes a bill then Congress must either vote to override the veto or sit down with the President and negotiate an acceptable compromise.

you need to go back to your US government class. Even the old School House Rock stuff on "I am just a bill" explains it.
The president has every right to veto any bill that comes to his desk. After he vetos it, the congress with a 2/3 majority vote can over ride his veto. Therefore making it a democracy and not a dictorship. The president does not have the last word ever in this government.
Every president has vetoed bills and they have gone back to congress for their vote.

Every president has the authority to veto bills. Any vetoed bill can still be come law with a 2/3 majority vote in the senate. Most state governments work in a similar way.

A veto is just part of the checks and balances on each branch the founding fathers built in. A veto is no where near a dictatorship when it can be over ridden.

Geez; read up on some basic Constitutional history.
Every President in US history has had veto power.
It is part of the "seperation of powers" to make sure neither Congress, nor the President can pass laws by themselves.
It keeps them both from becoming "dictators".
If there is enough support in Congress, they can override the veto, and then there is nothing the President can do about it.

It is not a dictatorship because the Congress can override a veto.
It is part of the checks and balances that the founding fathers set up in the Constitution.

He doesn't have to sign any bill that he believes is wrong, but he has to state his objections to the bill when he sends it back to Congress. Congress, if it can get a 2/3 majority can override his veto. It's referred to as 'Checks and Balances' Would you like it if congress could pass any bill they wanted to without any checks on their powers?

Every President elected has vetoed bills.....
They can become laws, if the senate and congress can get the votes to over-ride the presidents veto.
Take a political science class.
