180 pounds of what? How much can you bench press?
I was 165, 5'7" freshman year and I played line. Benched about 125-135. I switched to fullback the next year and weighed 185. Benched 185.
A bunch of people are telling you to play TE. I'm not sure that would fit you since you seem like you like to hit people. TE is alright but in high school you'll do a lot of blocking and not much else.
To play linebacker you need speed, good footwork, and brains. I would say an outside linebacker or DE would be the best for you as long as you are not especially fat.
If you are fat then you'll probably end up in line.
See where your coach puts you since you can try out for something and the coach can easily switch you. It's not like you have the power to choose what you play.
Most importantly, stay dedicated, doesn't matter what you play or how much playing time you get. Make use of your opportunities.

As others said, TE is probably the offensive position for you. My son is entering 9th grade a bit lighter than you and wants to play center but I fear he will be too light for the position. He has played organized ball though for the last 4 years though so I'm hoping he can win by skill and strength but I have a feeling he'll get bumped out to TE due to size issues. Oh, apparently his HS is expecting about four 300 lb 9th graders next year. Defensively I think DE or possibly one of the LB positions could work for you. If you go LB though you really need quick reaction times and the ability to understand the offensive plays and down situations. If this is your first year playing organized ball, don't be surprised if you are lacking skills that others have picked up in youth programs. Good luck and have fun
Oh, check with your HS to see what programs they have going on to develop new and existing players. My son has been lifting weights at the HS now for the last two months, even though is is in middle school. The coaches will also have some camps that they will "highly suggest" athletes to attend.

you're about the exact same size i was in 9th grade. If you get taller, tight end is a good possibility. Otherwise I would suggest playing full back or middle linebacker. What you should do is compare your size to the rest of your team and see where they need you. Remember it is a team sport, do whatever the team needs you to do. I wanted to play full back or middle linebacker but I was stuck on the offensive line all my career because I was bigger than most of my team.

Well, have you played organized football before? If you did it seems like you'd know what you want to go out for....
But, if your 40 time is under a 6.0 you might be an ok ILB.
Also TE would be a good choice.
When you start practicing go out for what ever you want. Your coaches will put you where you fit best in the end.
Just be sure to not hold back, and if you want to be a skill position, go for it.

Defensive end. You dont need a ton of speed, but just enough to catch people running the outside. Trust me, defense is much more fun to play than offense and you will probably hahve a better chance of starting.

Put on about 20 lbs and you could be a good LB or DT, DE if you've got some speed.

You want to play tight end, man. If you can do all that you say you can, you'd be a great TE or fullback if you use one. On defense, try out for either defensive end or middle linebacker and put that strength and quickness to work.

Sounds like you have the size and strength to play fullback or middle linebacker.
