Global warming is a serious issue, that many people dispute. For lay people this is understandable because average temperatures are rising so slowly as to be unnoticeable.
The key to understanding it is to think of it not as global "warming", but as global "heating". Raising heat has effects other than raising temperature. There is an experiment from high school physics that demonstrates what I mean.
Take a beaker and fill it with ice and water. Stir it with a thermometer and the temperature will read 0 degrees celsius, or 32 degrees Farenheit. Put the beaker over a burner, and start adding heat. The Ice will start to melt quicky, but the temperature does not go up until all the ice has melted. This is because it takes energy (heat) to break the water molecules in the ice apart. once the ice is melted the added heat can go to increasing the speed of the water molecules in the liquid. As temperature is actualy a measure of the speed the water molecules move through the liquid.
As you pour more heat in, the kinetic energy of the water molecules becomes so great that they start to escape the liquid mass. This happens at 100 degrees C, or 212 degrees F.
Even at lower temperatures, some molecules at the waters surface have sufficient energy to escape. This is why there is water vapor in the air. In the last couple of decades the number and intensity (energy again) of storms has increased.
The ice caps ARE melting. Be afraid.

Well, it may be getting colder here, but on of the most seriously effected places is Australia, where severe drought is mainly attributed to global warming. The wet weather has shifted to the sparsely populated north of the country, whilst the south experiences severe drought.
The Sun is in the middle of it's life - it's not going to 'die down a bit' for a long time yet. Also, the world has been coping with all the pollution - the atmosphere and oceans are soaking it up - but they cannot do this for much longer, and when they release all the carbon dioxide they are storing, global warming will excellerate.
The Sun won't run out for millions of years, and oil will run out soon (that's not the only thing, silver will run out in 5 years).
Global warming IS happening, and your reasons against it are, frankly, appaling - the work of a five year old?

This is a popular myth that is doing the rounds and is losely based on NASA reports but has been grossly distorted and exaggerated by some global warming skeptics. It would be a good idea to read the original NASA reports so you can put things into context. In short - there is evidence to suggest that the south polar ice cap is melting, there is also evidence to suggest the north polar ice cap is expanding. Therefore whatever warming is happening on Mars is only affecting parts of it. The probable reason for any warming on Mars are the global duststorms that sweep across the planet for days on end, such an event on earth (were it possible) would also lead to significant changes in our climate. Further, Mars is very, very different to our own planet thus making any comparisons very unreliable. It has no breathable atmosphere, is not largely vegetated, isn't predominantly water, experiences extreme temperature changes, is so cold that the ice caps aren't frozen water but frozen gas (carbon dioxide) and it's not inhabited by humans. It would be a very conveneint solution to say that the Sun is to blame for warming on Mars and on Earth, if that were the case then the other planets and moons in our solar system would also be warming - they're not. There's 172 of them all told and on 165 of them no warming has been observed. We have extremely accurate instruments for measuring changes in the output from the sun and we know that the difrerence between the highest and lowest outputs (insolation maxima and insolation minima) is very small - enough to cause global warming or cooling over thousands and millions of years but nowhere near enough to bring about the changes we've witnessed in the last few decades. The actual difference between maximum and minimum output is a variation of a little less than one thousandth (a variation of 1.3 Watts per square metre per year against a mean of 1366 W/m2/yr). Again, please refer to the original NASA reports, the skeptics are trying to fool you by concealing facts and distorting others.

I agree with you that the Earth is not warming up as a lot of people claim, and the sun is a bit less massive but by such a tiny amount it is not noticeable, one would think that all of that blow out gas that is burning in India, and other places, could be put to good use.

Well, what a relief! I'm quite sure that the scientific community will be most relieved to learn that, in John Brian W's opinion, global warming is a crock. That all of their fears were for nought, all of the money spent on silly things like research and computer modeling just a waste. How could they not have seen it as clearly as you can? I guess you must be able to see better with your head up your butt.

As for the sun getting cooler because it has been burning for 5 billion years, the fact is that the sun can still put out the same amount of energy for another 5 billion years. That's because there is still 5 billion years worth of hydrogen outside the sun's core that is still feeding the hydrogen to helium nuclear reaction in the core.

I didn't see your proof that global warming does not exist except that a monkey in the UK is looking for a welder.

Didn't global warming happen just before the last ice age? Ice caps melt, making the oceans colder, creating harsher storms and eventually freezing everything? Oh, wait! That was a movie!

Well it is getting warmer in this country ( england ) Talk to old guys in their 90s or look at historical records and you see that the canals in this area used to freeze every other year and winter temperatures were much lower. The canals sure as hell dont freeze over in the winter now!
I have also seen figs growing in the centre of London. London also has two giant flocks of wild parakeets.
Yes, it is getting warmer. As to what is causing it ?????
