You are truly ignorant. You wouldn't post a similar question about Hindi or Hispanic music just because you don't relate, connect, or identify with it would you? Do some "research" and listen to some relevant artists before you pigeon-hole an entire genre. As with all genres, some artist write more meaningful material and others write mindless bullcrap. Step up your overall music IQ.

While there are a few hard core rappers that absolutely make me sick,,it is unfair to include the whole of rap in your judgment,,,,what about linkin park? They rock and they rap alot....Eminem has a few good songs,,as well as Kid rock,,also a rapper,,,,i do like the r&b rappers sometimes too, they can be romantic when time is being spent with a pretty woman,or slow dancing at a bar,or nightclub,,,,,,Are you old enough to remember the band "anthrax"?? In the day, they were pretty hard core,,but they also rapped a bit,,,I thought it was great to hear a hard rock group rapping!!! You should "limewire"anthrax,I think you might like them,,,,I do agree with you about the bitter taste of rap these days though...It seems like the beat is becoming more and more the same,or the rapper rips off some older song and calls it sampling, then takes all the glory and credit for a song that was already a hit before they ever touched it!!!!Also I dont care for all the racism in rap,or the bragging about pimping,or raping,or treating women like meat,or drugs are ok,as long as you dont get caught,,,also the fact that black men are reffered to as "soldiers"....ummm WHAT??? Soldier in what war????it is a blatant reference to the so called resistance to being held down by whites,,which is bu!!$h:t,,noone is holding anyone back!!!especially in this day and age.....Life is what you make of it and noone needs some dumb as wannabe pimp tellin them how to live!!!!
As for the language the rappers use and pass off on our youth..It is deplorable..How are these kids ever going to be anything if they cant even speak properly??
Dont get me wrong,,I love music of all kinds,metallica,magadeth,garth brooks,flotsam and jetsam,,reba macentire,skid row,gnr,kid rock,snoop dog(when he's actin right),,,,,,,
Point is,,you should try and open your mind to new experiences and not let hatred control your decision making skills.................

Some rappers are lyrical geniuses -- Ludacris comes up with incredible metaphors. Rappers like Tupac and Biggie were some of the most talented musicians ever -- listen to Biggie's "Suicidal Thoughts" -- it's incredibly thought provoking. As for other rap...some of it is incredibly stupid, but I like the beats, and it's fun to dance to. But then again, I appreciate pretty much all music.

Ridiculous characterization.
That's like saying all country is about trucks, divorce, dogs, trains, mamas and ...
All music is about love, family, the situation in which people find themselves and life's big questions. So if a person's context--real or imagined--is the streets or drugs or some kind of messed up reality, well, their music SHOULD reflect that.
It's the posing that's the problem, particularly if the stuff is poorly written. But check out Mos Def's BLACK ON BOTH SIDES, for instance. Hard pressed to find writing like that anywhere else on the dial--country, pop, alt, etc.

Lyrics today are far to racy and blatenly abusive towards society, women and themselves.
That being said however, not all rap is bad...back in the early days some of that rap is nostolgic...
I said a hip hop,
Hippie to the hippie,
The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it
To the bang bang boogie, say, up jump the boogie,
To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat.
Now, what you hear is not a test - I'm rappin' to the beat,
And me, the groove, and my friends are gonna try to move your feet.
See, I am Wonder Mike, and I'd like to say hello,
To the black, to the white, the red and the brown,
The purple and yellow. But first, I gotta
Bang bang, the boogie to the boogie,
Say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie,
Let's rock, you don't stop,
Rock the rhythm that'll make your body rock.
Well so far you've heard my voice but I brought two friends along,
And the next on the mic is my man Hank,
C'mon, Hank, sing that song!

To all the people that say they hate rap; trust me the top executives dont lose sleep over you guys/gals. Its a BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY. Just do the math. I mean to be honest none of you have to even listen to rap music at all. That'll be the easiest thing to do. People rap about where they came from and the experiences that shaped thier lives just how directors write moves through personal experiences or how authors write novels. Come on yall dont be naivee rap is here to stay wehter you guys like it or not. Its reality

This is all mainstream rap. Underground has much more meaning in the lyrics. The underground rap artists are truly talented. I do not like rap at all. I just never have. But I do have to have respect for the artists who are not simply in it for the money and have meaning to their lyrics. I must agree that mainstream rap and hip-hop is uninspiring $#!T.

I hate most CURRENT rap singles, b/c they're very repetitive with no creative mixing or lyrics.
Once a rap song is about 5 years old and hasn't been jammed into my ears/eyes by commercial radio and Mtv, I can usually be objective about it.
I originally didn't like Will Smith, Biggy Smalls, Snoop, Bone Thugs, etc.; but they have some GREAT samples and fun lyrics.
The only rap I liked the first time I heard it: Beastie Boys, Jurassic 5, Digable Planets, De La Soul.
Current artist I can't stand bombardment by? Fabolous (including a documentary).

Let's see, a song like Party Like A Rock Star is about gangs and drive by's. No. A song like Straight To The Bank is about gangs and drive by's. No. A song like Pop, Lock and Drop It is about gangs and drive by's. No. A song like Runaway Love is about gangs and drive by's. No. For every song you name that has something about gangs and drive by's in it, I can match you with one that doesn't. If you don't like girls then that is your personal preference. I don't particularly like the negative things said about women in some rap songs, but once again, not every rap song has negative things about women in the song. Therefore, if you don't like it, don't listen to it.

Rappers sing about life experiences. Im from the ghetto and I can tell you that 90% of what they rap about is true. The other 10% is a load of bull. I can listen to As I Lay Dying, the next song will be Tupac and the next will be The Used. Its music so what
