it did not come up on the inspection? in order to prevail in a suit you would have to show not only the owner knew of the problem, it was material in nature, and owner intentionally hide the material defect from you

Did you obtain a home inspection prior to buying the property? If it was not disclosed and you did not notice it then you are responsible. Check your property disclosure. You know the form that was filled out buy the seller disclosing any damage, lead paint, etc. I think your home owners insurance may cover the damage but you need to check with them. It may be cheaper to have someone come and fix the spot(s). You would be hard pressed to take this to court and your court fees may cost you more than trying to just get it fixed.

Sorry, but that may have been unknown to the seller. It probably should have been discovered by the inspection, but if it was hidden under a carpet, even an inspector may have missed it despite a dilligent inspection.

Better that than a deluge in the basement during the first gully-washer a week after move-in! Been there, done that!

Caveat emptor!

Was there carpet over it? As the previously stated, the damage should have shown up in the inspection report.

Unfortunately, urine in hardwoods means you have to replace the affected areas. It's not usually possible to sand down far enough to get rid of the black stains.

Sorry to hear about this. Yuck!

The sooner you clean it up the better, but it could damage your floor if it stays there too long. I would try keeping puppy in one room for most of the time until he is potty trained. If he's tiny try using a wee-wee pad too.
