If you aren't seeing any signs of a leak or smelling the coolant after driving for a while, then you more than likely have a sensor that needs to be replaced.

The manufacturer has these "neat" little things placed on the car's computer, so that only they know how to reset them. Most are simple, but, more difficult to find a mechanic who will tell you for free.
I own a Chevy product, and every 5000 miles, the "check oil" lamp comes on. I took it to one dealer and was told that I'd have to let them place it on the rack, check the computer and it would cost a minimum of $35. I then went to a friend who was an auto mechanic from Chevy, and he said to place the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position, but don't start it. Then pump the gas pedal 3 times, and the oil light will blink. Turn off the ignition, then turn it on and start the car. Ever since then, I go to a place to change the oil as cheaply as I can find, then when the light comes on, just follow those procedures and the light goes out for another 5000 miles. And at no additional cost.

This occurs when the coolant level sensor located in the overflow tank is low or if the indicator/sensor has failed. The tank may not have been refilled to the propper level or the sensor needs to be replaced.

Have to make sure it is topped off after the thermostat has opened and double check it when you think you are done and the car is warmed up!
Were you having a problem before you changed it ??

If it has the original radiator, it is may be clogged. Take your car to a repair shop and see if they can clean it for you, if not, you might need to replace it...go ahead and replace your thermostat at the same time.

The sensor is not working right. I've been ignoring mine for the last 30000 miles.

You have a hole somewhere, it may be leaking fluid or the hole is not allowing enough pressure to build. You need to take it to a mechanic.
