I can't believe anyone would say no. They are one of four or five teams with a good shoot to win it all.

The Red Sox have an excellent chance of winning this year's World Series. But first, they need to solve a few flaws. First, Julio Lugo, shortstop, is playing like complete garbage. He's is only batting around .200 and his defense has been dismal. Recently most of the team has been firing on all cylinders, but the lack of home-run production by Manny and Ortiz has been shocking. If the Sox want to keep 10+ games up on the Yanks, they need to be those 40 and 50 home-run guys we remember. Although Coco and JD Drew started the season slowly, their increase in production has carried the team through Manny and Ortiz's home-run slump. Heres a few reasons for why they will win the series this year: First, they have excellent starting pitching. Although Schilling recently went on the 15 day DL, the Sox starting pitching is still strong. Julian Tarvez has been surprising and the Sox have several prospects including Kason Gabbard, Jon Lester, and Clay Bucholtz who will be adequate fill-in's until Schilling is healthy. Another strength is the Red Sox defense. Coco has been amazing in center, JD Drew has been an upgrade in right, and as long as Wily Mo Pena is not in the outfield the Red Sox should be ok. From the top to the bottom of the Red Sox line-up all players are capable of carrying the team during slumps. The only other thing that worries me is if the Sox's bullpen can keep up their almost perfection the rest of the way.

Take it from me - an avid Red Sox hater (I like the current players - hate the organization for various, unmentionable reasons), this current Boston team is going to be very difficult to beat this year. They definitely have the pitching in all facets (starting, long, middle, short, and closing with Papelbon), and their hitting and defense are good. Statistically, they match up with anyone. Can they win it all? Of course, but they, like any team, can get bitten by the injury bug (look at the Yankees and Braves), or go into a prolonged slump, like any team might do at any time.
This year is going to be interesting, but it will be no cakewalk for anyone. The Red Sox, Yankees, Tigers, and Angels, I believe, will do most of the damage in the AL and play into October. Then, in a series, anything can happen. I will volunteer this, however: THE RED SOX NOW HAVE THE CAPABILITY IN THEIR ORGANIZATION TO CHALLENGE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP EVERY YEAR, NOT JUST HIT AND MISS LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST. They are now a perennial power. As a Yankee fan, it makes me ill, but I think it is good over all for the game. GOOD LUCK, but not too much! :-)

the red sox are like the yankees, mets, (and now) tigers in that they are a legitamite threat every year
im a yanks fan and every year they are the biggest threats to us (outside of the Angels who always beat the yanks)
the red sox have a very good shot this year. but can they stay strong through August and September is the question
