Hi!
I am a college art teacher too, and I'm wondering if one of my colleagues gave you this assignment, LOL!
It's a bit unfair to ask you to *draw* something without using *drawing* tools. Using the word "make"... (a self portrait) would make more sense. That said...
Your safest option is to finger paint, or you could find an object of choice, dip it's tip into paint or ink, and draw with it. A Q-tip would be ideal, as it's not a drawing tool. I'd have some fun with this assignment by dropping a blob of ink or paint on the paper and blowing it in the general direction I want to indicate hair. I would use the Q-tip to draw the tighter details, and I'd paint the bottom of my shoe and use the pattern it makes for the shadow parts of my picture. My suggestion may be more complex than your teacher wants, so ask first, but I'm certain that at least one of these ideas will satisfactorily meet the rules of your assignment. Best of luck to you!

Perhaps the teacher means make a collage, sculpture, or some other 3-D object to represent your self portrait...?

Ink, charcoal, computer assisted sketches, pastels, paint, clay or paper mache,an Etch a Sketch, sepia pens, or markers would be my guess. If you don't understand the request, ask, or consult another student who only had the course. (I would vote for asking.)
