Global warming is not a theory. We have thermometers placed in the oceans and atmosphere all over the world. We have definitively measured that the average global temperature is going up. This is not up for debate.
What is up for debate is whether or not humans are the cause of this. The majority of qualified scientists who examine the data agree that humans are the cause.
The opinions of the general populace do not affect whether or not this is true. Science is not a democratic process. The majority is not right simply because they are a majority. The argument that fits the facts best is right until proven wrong.

Allthough the Earth does cycle through climate changes rather often on a geological time scale what we are experiencing now is quite different. The rate at which the atmosphere is warming up is unpresodented as far back as we have been able to see into the past. Global warming is a fact, how much we have to do with it and how detrimental it can be is still up for debate. However the prospects don;t look good for us, just look at the ecological shifts that have taken place during our life times. Here in Montana where I live we have not brocken our average yearly rainfall since before I can remeber, and we are already a half desert.

Our planet is going through a very gradual warming cycle which we are speeding up exponentially through greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and other changes to the environment. Though both sides of the debate have their own propaganda and employ their own rhetoric, it is very difficult to ignore the scientific evidence that the world's climate is shifting at a faster rate than it has ever shifted before. Without some significant changes in the way we view and approach the problem of global warming, future generations will live on a planet that is much less hospitable than the one on which we live today.

The earth's environment does go through some crazy cycles. The idea that man-made carbon dioxide warms the atmosphere is true, but when you start looking at the amount of CO2 we produce and what effect it really has on the environment, then this whole doomsday global warming BS really comes to light. If no one had told you anything about global warming, ever, would you be inclined to believe it was getting warmer every year (because it really isn't) or that weather around the globe is getting worse?

There is no real scientific debate anymore. Global warming is real and is definitely caused by humans. The only scientists that "argue" are paid by Shell and would also tell you the cigarettes are not addictive. If you think that it's a natural occurrence then read a book and see that natural cycles on Earth take millions of years, not hundreds, this is a man-caused even, get your head out of the ever-warming sand.

They are looking at 1 deg, F in 100 years . I don't think that is in the accuracy of the thermometer of 100 year ago. Accuracy is no better than + - 2 deg. F. so the 1 deg . means nothing. The CO2 is not a problem but part of the solution. The methane go measure it it is not where it should be. If the green house gas is not there there is no global warming.

Yes, and it's not a theory. Too much scientific fact has been produced to consider it anything but the truth.
Yes, the earth cycles; however, at the rate we are destroying everything, we are making that warming cycle stronger quicker than it ever would be on its own.

comparing temps at stations on the antarctica peninsula the other day.... 10 digrees higher temps then the exact date last year... thats not uncommon to find either, considering how much of the US had a heat wave last year i doubt if it would show here this year.
Doesn't mean its warming by the same ammount, excessively cold weather in winter will counter it for the yearly average which is why they say its only warming by so much which is still allot.

yes it is happening. and guess what it is a cycle that the earth does go through. there is evidence that overtime since the earth was created, there was global cooling and global warming. so basically both is true

From what I have seen and read, I believe that it is not simply part of a cycle; I believe with our burning of fossil fuels and with the deforestation of so much of the planet, that we have managed to create a problem. I do believe that it can be corrected if we start working on it NOW.
